Does writing down a poem and giving it to a girl help make her like you? That depends on a few things:.
What do you mean when you say "writing down a poem". If you mean copying down a poem someone else wrote, it's probably not going to impress… a girl as much as writing something yourself. If you mean you are going to write the poem yourself, it depends on whether you are a good poet or not - in general, though, I'd say she'd rather have an original poem that stinks over a copied one from somebody else.
Does the girl in question like poetry?.
Not everyone likes reading poems. Some girls would much rather get a heartfelt note or love letter instead. Is this a good poem or not?.
“Where I'm From” grew out of my response to a poem from Stories I Ain't Told Nobody Yet (Orchard Books, ; Theater Communications Group, ) by my friend, Tennessee writer Jo Carson. All of the People Pieces, as Jo calls them, are based on things folks actually said, and number 22 begins, “I want to know when you get to be . Would you like to know how to get kids to love writing? A good poem is one that is specifically about traits of that one girl - this shows that you appreciate the unique things about her, and are not just looking at her boobs or wanting to get in her pants. Try to come up with things in her personality that impress you, or things that you admire about her as a person.
You should probably stay away from talking about her looks, because that is usually a signal to a girl that you just want to get her in the sack! You also need to be vulnerable here, and let your feelings show on the page. Look at this poem by Alaistair Reid:.
She reads omens in small happenings, the fall of a teaspoon, flurries of birds, a cat's back arching, words unspoken, wine spilt. She will notice moods in handwriting, be tuned to feelings in a room, sense ill-luck in a house, take heed of ghosts, hear children cry before the sound has reached her, stay unperturbed in storms, keep silence where speech would spoil.
Days are her changes, weather her time. Whether it be becalmed in cool mornings of air and water, or thunderstruck through nights where flesh craves and is answered, in her, love knows no division, is an incarnation of all her wonder, as she makes madness subside, and all thought-splintered things grow whole again.
She walks in the garden, preoccupied with paths, head bent, beautiful, not at rest, as objects are, but moving, in the fleck of light and shade.
Her ways are hers, not mine. Pointless to make my sense of her, or claim her faithfulness. She is as women are, aware of her own mystery, in her way faithful to flowers and days; and from the window's distance, I watch her, haunted by her otherness.
Well to love true women, whose whims are wise, whose world is warm, whose home is time, and well to pleasure them, since, last of all, they are the truth which men must tell, and in their pleasure, houses lighten, gardens grow fruitful, and true tales are told.
Well to move from mind's distance into their aura, where the air is shifting, intimate, particular. Well to praise and please her, well to make this for her sake.
You have absolutely no idea what this woman looks like, yet you know she is a wonderful, unique woman and that the poet is madly in love with her. If you can write a poem that shows your girl's inner personality as well as Reid has shown his lover's soul, then I cannot think of a girl in the world who would not love getting such a poem.
However - just writing a poem isn't going to make her like you, you know.Writing about poetry can be difficult. A poem does not affect its reader in quite the same way that a work of prose does.
To be able to understand and write about the way a poem works, you need to spend some time thinking analytically about the poem before you start your draft. Free, printable worksheets to help students practice writing poetry. Great activities for the classroom or at home.
